Imagine the entire population of the United States of
America, from sea to shining sea, being devastated by a severe drought. That is the crisis that is currently plaguing
the people of India. Over 25% of the
population of India (330 million people) are struggling with a severe shortage
of water. It is causing many deaths and
even suicides caused by hopelessness.
Even our area is starting to see the effects of the drought
as people’s wells dry up and they have to find alternate sources for
water. Our rivers and creeks that usually
run year round have long since dried up.
According to several news sources the cause of this drought is poor
monsoon rains over the last several years.
There are numerous people in our own neighborhood whose
wells have dried up. Just this week, our
landlord had our well extended another five feet. It was an interesting process to observe; we
tried to capture it in photos as best we could.
Below I also provided a link to a BBC report if you are
interested in reading more about this crisis.
The rain is beginning to fall in our region but apparently it is far
from enough or what it should be. I guess
we have yet to experience a good monsoon season…even though we thought we got a
TON of rain last year.
Please pray for this country and all the people whose lives,
families and means of existence are being devastated by this drought.
There are two guys inside the well. If you look closely enough you can see the second one, below the first.
