More Vaccinations

In preparation for our move eastward, we had to get one more vaccination: Japanese Encephalitis.  Our travel doctor in the States advised us not to get the shot before we left because she didn’t think it was necessary.  We were delighted not to get another shot, especially Japanese Encephalitis because it was very costly (nearly $1000 per person in the States…a tenth of the cost here in Delhi)!  Since we have been here, we have read reports in the news about more than 250 people dying in the area we are headed as a result of contracting this virus.  So, we decided to find a doctor here in Delhi and get the shots. 

It was actually a wonderful experience…well as wonderful as getting a shot can be! Our doctor was a delightful Indian man who had studied medicine in the States and had a practice in New Mexico.  He said he liked the weather there because it was very similar to Delhi.   

We contacted the doctor yesterday evening by email…he answered us right away...giving us his cell phone number so that we could text him to set up an appointment.  By 9:30 pm, we had our appointment scheduled for the next day.  When we arrived at the doctor’s office we were taken back within 5 minutes and were out the door in less than 30 minutes with smiles on our faces and band-aids on our arms! This will probably go down as one of the best experiences we have ever had with a doctor’s office. 

It only took us 4 hours, 3.5 of which were spent in the car, to get the first round of our Japanese Encephalitis vaccination taken care of.  The doctor’s office was only about 15 kilometers from our house.  Nothing like Delhi traffic!
