Today for our language class we went on a “field trip” with
our language nurturer. This type of
activity is called a “shared experience.”
The basic idea is that you experience something together and then sit
down and discuss it. During our discussion,
our language nurturer records his explanation of our experience, and then we
play it back, stopping to note new words and to get clarification on the
story.
Today, we decided to visit one of Delhi’s many historical sites,
Tughlaqabad Fort. It was built around
1320 by Ghiyas-ud-din Tughlag, who was then the Delhi Sultanate of India. This fort was connected by an underground,
secret passage way to another fort as well as to the Mausoleum of Ghiyas-ud-din
Tughlag. The Fort and Mausoleum were
very impressive structures. We truly
enjoyed our “shared experience” with our language nurturer who happens to be a
historian, currently pursuing his doctorate.
We are loving our language learning experience in Delhi and feel very
blessed by the relationships we are forming with all four of our language
nurturers.
